More about me:
Katie Prentiss Onsager is a Chicago-based documentary filmmaker and video journalist, specializing in producing and editing.
As the Executive Producer of Small Forces, she led the production of more than 40 documentary shorts about grassroots activists and organizations across the country, including BT Lives in the Stitch, winner of the 2019 PBS Short Film Festival.
Katie has produced and edited award-winning work, ranging from historical documentaries to concert films, that has been recognized by the National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences, The Webby Awards, and The Shorty Social Good Awards. Highlights include: Dreamers and Makers are My Favorite People, a concert documentary about beloved musical act Iron & Wine, and Newton Minow: An American Story, an Emmy-winning feature documentary broadcast nationally on PBS. Katie also works with purpose-driven clients, including large nonprofits and direct-to-consumer brands, to help them tell their stories.
Katie has served as an adjunct lecturer, teaching multimedia journalism courses to undergraduate students at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. She is a member of the Documentary Producers Alliance.
Katie also knows how to cook a whole octopus and make it delicious. While her culinary skills with cephalopods may appear to be a talent unrelated to her professional goals, it is a good encapsulation of how she approaches her work: a constant curiosity, a willingness to take on challenges, and a sense of what is going to make a great story.
